Must Visit Nandankanan Zoological Park Bhubaneswar

The 400 hectare Nandankanan Zoo Cum Botanical Garden is here. The zoo first appeared in 1960. Since 2009, the location has belonged to the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums. The Odisha state capital, Bhubaneswar, is a short distance away from The Garden of Heavens.

 

Kanjia Lake is close to Nandankanan Zoological Park. Since the park started to include animals, the Lake has also gained popularity as a tourist destination. Both of these locations provide excellent leisure opportunities. The first zoo in India with a white tiger safari is Nandankanan.

Introduction

In 1964, the first tiger arrived at the location from Calcutta. Along with the tiger, African lions, Puma, and Mugger Crocodiles also arrived. Visitors to the area take pleasure in seeing various species of mammals, birds, and reptiles there. White tigers are renowned for reproducing in the forest. Numerous endangered species of Indian crocodiles, Nilgiri langurs, Mouse deer, and lion-tailed macaques can be found nearby. In its magnificent Aquaria, the zoo offers a superb assortment of freshwater fish.

In addition to the Aquaria, the park is well-known for its Reptile Park, which is home to lizards, snakes, crocodiles, and turtles.

The zoo’s Orchid House offers a stunning collection of orchids for viewing and enjoyment.

Entry Timing

From April through September, the zoo is available to visitors from 7:30 in the morning to 5:00 at night. 8am in the morning to 5pm in the evening are the visitation hours from October to March. On Mondays, the location is closed to guests while routine maintenance is being done.

Entry Fee

An adult Indian is required to pay a small entry fee of Rs. 40. More money is required from foreign guests than from Indians.

Activities Available

The Park offers a wide variety of activities. There are various activities available, including the Lion Safari, White Tiger Safari, Rope Way, Toy Train, Paddle Boating, and Family Boating.

How to Reach

Bhubaneswar is easily reachable by car as it is situated along the route from Kolkata to Chennai. Town buses, taxis, and auto rickshaws are available for transportation inside the city. From Bhubaneshwar, one can get to Nandankanan by bus, cab, or auto-rickshaw. The park can also be reached by bus from the Bhubaneshwar airport.

The best season to travel is always winter.
